Department of Early Childhood Educare

 

Objectives

      In line with the national childhood educare policies, the major objectives of the Department of Early Childhood Educare (DOECE) are to foster excellent childcare and educare professionalism for the e-generation.  In addition to the cultivation of professional childcare knowledge and ethics, this department spotlights students’ capabilities in information management, as well as, English teaching.

 

 

Features

 

      The early childhood educare program is characterized by following features:

Few required courses for degree which allows students a wide range of choices in selecting their courses.

A comprehensive professional knowledge base for students.  This program prepares students with both foundational and core courses.

bullet

Stresses the combination of theory and practice.  Students have great practicum opportunities with the establishment of special classrooms and practice fields, as well as, the connections to day-care centers and kindergartens.

The dedication to the quality of daycare service in our community.

 

 

Faculty

 

      DOECE teaching team is comprised of two professors, one associate professor and the supporting faculties from the Department of Applied Foreign Language and the Department of Information Management.  In addition, DOECE will recruit two more professional and experienced faculty members who hold Ph.D. degrees in early childhood educare.

 

 

Curriculum Design

 

      Courses provided by this program are described as follows:

Core subjects including both common courses and general education courses.

bullet

Mandatory courses of DOECE which include professional foundation, core and practicum courses.

bullet

Module Courses: Students can choose any module course in information and multimedia, instruction of children in English, or early childhood special education.

bullet

Other elective courses.

 

 

Instructional Facility

 

      In order to fully develop students’ competence in educating young children, the DOECE has several classrooms designed specifically for different methods and strategies of teaching.  These specially constructed classrooms are:

A Montessori simulation classroom.

bullet

A rhythmic and physical training classroom.

bullet

A hygienic and healthcare simulation classroom.

bullet

An observation room for children’s behavior.

bullet

A simulation care room for young children.

bullet

An audio classroom.

bullet

An experimental daycare center.

 

 

Career Planning

 

      After graduating students of the DOECE may develop their career from three approaches:

 Applying for jobs: Graduates of DOECE are qualified to be teachers, staff members or directors of child care-related institutions.

bullet

Taking the National Examinations:  Examinations include the National General Examination, advanced and special exams for government officials in childcare, child-welfare, social work, administration of special education, and general educational administration.

bullet

Pursuing advanced study: Graduates may also consider further study domestically or overseas in related fields such as early childhood educare, early childhood education, special education, child welfare, counseling, psychology, home economics and family education.
