Computer Center

Introduction
In the last two years, the administration has invested more than twenty million NTD in order to advance the computer laboratory system, to improve the infrastructure and integrate academic and administrative Computer Information Systems (CIS).
We are currently connected to TANet (Taiwan Academic Network) using the most up to date fiber-optic gigabyte connection system. The Center hosts and administers seven, interconnected; state-of-the-art computer labs in order assist and support the instruction of curricula and research projects. The Center provides each member of the University a free e-mail account and network disk space for their personal web-page. The labs are open seven days a week.
The Center’s CIS is a web-based application that is built upon the Java programming language that enables access from any system, anywhere, anytime.
All of the university’s academic and administrative offices are integrated within the CIS project. These include, but are not limited to, Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, General Affairs, Research and Technology Corporation Accounting, Human Resources, and the Library systems. The foundation of the administrations’ automation system for the campus-wide workflow system, electronic-paper system and budget planning systems is the CIS. All educational systems from the junior college level straight up to the graduate level are totally integrated.
Mission Statement
Our mission is to provide convenient, stable and secure information systems for the for our users and to be the benchmark of the computing service center among the universities and institutes of technologies in Taiwan.
Divisions
|
Network Resources Group (NRG): |
The primary objective of the NRG is to design and implement the network communication infrastructures. The
fundamental network services include: WWW, IP, DNS, FTP, BBS proxy, network, firewall, security and email
services.
|
Technical Support Group (TSG): |
The TSG is the information “help desk”. The team is dedicated to providing the highest quality of service and
knowledge available with any hardware and software problems. They also are responsible for handling the
administrative system’s web-page services.
|
Media and Instruction Group (MIG): |
Maintaining the computer facilities, for the faculty and students, is the main objective of this group. The staff is
also responsible for the designing, training and implementing to aid in the academic development of distance and
web-based learning.
|
System Development Group: |
The staff of this group is charged with the development of the Campus Information System (CIS). This CIS
provides the campus with administration and academic computing services. Through the web-based application
thesystem is designed to be an integrated information system that transcends academic, programs, platforms and
geographic boundaries
Future Goals
The Computer Center will continue to pursue the advancement of all campus systems and strive to share with other
institutes and therefore becoming the main portal of module development and maintenance. The transferring of
information system technology and knowledge will be the bridge of academic training and practices in the future.
The expansion of the web-based learning system will be able to facilitate the development of web-based learning
material and the increasing instruction load for not only our campus, but for Chia-yi and the surrounding counties
as well.
